When we lived in Hoboken we didn’t worry about our dog while traveling because we knew our little guy was being cared for by my parents or, when they weren’t available, our amazing dog sitter.

Since we live in Austin and neither is an option I’m freaking out about our upcoming weekend trip. There are so many things that can go horribly wrong:

  1. Our dog sitter is awful and abuses our dog.
  2. Our dog sitter only walks our dog at night and in the morning and he’s stuck inside the rest of the day. (I understand that this isn’t horrible, but it’s not what will make him most comfortable.)
  3. Our dog sitter loses patience with our dog while walking him, starts tugging on his leash, and injures him.
  4. Our dog bites our dog sitter because she’s mean to him.
  5. Our dog sitter doesn’t show up all weekend, our little guy has to do his business in the house, and he doesn’t have any food or water when we return home.
  6. Our dog sitter steals our dog and gives him (or sells him) to a dog fighting ring.
  7. Our dog sitter doesn’t heed our request to keep him away from other dogs while we’re away and he (or someone else’s dog) gets injured.
  8. Our dog sitter robs us because she has unlimited access to our apartment for about 48 hours.
  9. Our dog sitter loses the keys to our apartment. (Again, not horrible but it would be majorly inconvenient.)
  10. Our dog sitter has a party in our apartment. (This would suck, but as long as nothing is stolen or broken I guess I would figure out how to get over it.)
  11. Our dog sitter goes through our stuff. (This would just feel creepy and invasive.)
  12. Our dog sitter hacks into our computers.
  13. Our dog sitter makes a total mess of our apartment. (Again, not like the worst thing in the world, but would be a rather unfortunate situation to come home to.)
  14. Our dog sitter does damage to our apartment.
  15. Our dog sitter forgets to leave behind the garage door opener when she’s finished with her stay. (Again, there are way worse things on this list but this would be a pain.)
